The Cahonies

Heeeeeello, Blues fans!

the ezine has a treat for you, Adrian Trelore Guitarist of The Cahonies are here! a super blues trio from England.

Welcome to the ezine...

Thanks Claude, nice to be here

Give us a feel for who the members of the Cahonies are?

OK, we are a three piece from the North West of England, consisting of myself, John 'Mad Bob' Gallacher on bass, and Phil 'Fatboy' Lister on drums.

It is a tribute to your musicianship that you are so versatile. You play the various styles with brio and passion. How long have you been playing together?

That's a great compliment Claude, thanks. Well we've been together for about four years now in one form or another....although it's only in the last 18 months or so that we've really pushed to promote The Cahonies. We started work on our CD a few months ago initially as a demo just to get more work in the blues clubs, festivals etc. The response has been so good that we intend to record a few more tunes soon and put it out as a full CD.

What first attracted you to the blues and R&B?

I don't know really.......a number of things, obviously the sheer passion of some of the great recordings, the raw, live quality, ...the imagery, ......the whole package. It's a form of music that's fairly universal, surely everyone at sometime has really let go and had a great time partying to a tight R&B band?

I noticed a lot of cover songs what about original material?

That's something we promised ourselves we would do, we just haven't got around to it yet.............there are a few ideas we are playing around with at the moment in the rehearsal studio. Maybe later this year we will get a chance to record them.

It feels like your live concert are a party not too be missed. What do you like best of live performance?

A full dance-floor!! It's a great feeling playing your music and watching the audience have a great time too, it just lifts your playing up another level. We try and have fun with it too, play around with some of the tunes, alittle improvisation keeps you on your toes!

On a more personal level, what was the first live concert you ever went to?

Whoa, that's a long time ago now........Rory Gallagher, sometime in '79 I think

What is the most difficult part of creating?

Having played a song 150 times, trying to make it sound fresh.

Have you ever had a nightmare gig?

Don't even ask........I used to wake up crying in the middle of the night sometimes.....(I joke). Fortunately we haven't had any major catastrophes yet, we've had the usual trouble with amps breaking down, that sort of thing. Oh I remember once we arrived at one venue to find ourselves billed as "Live Country music with The Cahonies", John even sang Kenny Rogers' Ruby!!! ( we never did find out how he knew the words)

What is it about a strat(Fender stratocaster for non musician readers) that made you favor it?

For many years I was a dedicated Tele fan, however when I heard 'Texas Flood' .......who couldn't become addicted to that strat sound the way SRV played it?? It's a great sounding guitar, very versatile, plenty of tones, comfortable to play, what else can I say? Just plug straight in to a good tube amp, turn up to 10 and off you go!!!

Who's your musical hero?

Stevie Ray Vaughan....no question. There are a host of other guitar players I'm into though. Albert King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Sonny Landreth, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, the list goes on and on. There is a fairly healthy Blues movement in the UK at the moment, guys like Jon Amor (formerly of The Hoax), Otis Grand,The Nimmo Brothers are all quality players.

Well, thank you for participating in this zineterview

Thanks Claude its been a pleasure...
