Here is a band with no run of the mill stuff
but with a unique sound or perhaps sounds
would be more adequate. I present to you "Plaid Anxiety" Doing the interview is Ted Carrol, hi! welcome to the ezine! Greetings from Baltimore, MD.
Describe the band line up and their fonction
Plaid Anxiety consists of a Rhythm Guitarist(Adam Kussrow), a Lead
Guitarist(Chuck Lamar), and myself(Ted Carroll).
I do vocals, as well as synchronization of 2 drum machines, 2 keyboards, and
the occasional sample.
How would you describe your sound?
We jokingly describe ourselves as "Industrial Grunge Pop", but that is
actually probably the best way to describe it. We
like to take as many styles of music and incorporate them into our songs.
All 3 of us have very different backgrounds &
influences, which is very helpful in that aspect.
How did your latest show go?
Our last show went quite well. We only had to cut one song from the set
due to a timing problem, but that sort of thing is
always anticipated.
What is the hardest part of creating?
The hardest part of creating is TIME. To create time would be the ideal
thing to do, and then to improve upon that would
be to create time that coincides with the other band members' time.
What do you guys do for fun beside music?
TED CARROL: Travelling, Watching movies, writing, and partying.
ADAM KUSSROW: Partying, cooking, watching football, and partying.
CHUCK LAMAR: Partying, driving fast, promoting bands, and girls!!!
I had the pleasure of visiting your state, mainly Rockville MD.
Seems like Baltimore would be a nice area to live in. But how
is the music scene?
Baltimore has a few very nice spots to live in and especially the
suburbs of the city, but the music scene is very confusing.
There are many different styles and sounds, but it's tough to get a good
strong following unless you are streamline. You really
have to pick & choose what clubs you know will attract people that
appreciate different styles. There's a few out there still.
Another thing we have in commun is the passion for the words.
Have you been writing long?
I have been writing stories for about 18 years, and lyrics for about
the past 13 years. I try to make my lyrics
understandable in our recordings, so the few people out there that might
relate can hear them and possibly sing along.
What are your themes of choice for lyrics?
Most of my lyrics are on the darker side. I tried the cheezy pop stuff
for a few years and it just didn't flow as well as the
anger does. It's a good way to vent. Nice stress reliever. I also write a
lot of deep hidden messages in my lyrics where they
sound like they're about one thing, but they're something completely
different.
What is your views on the whole indie versus signed debate,
Would you rather continue as an indie band or sign with a major?
A big part of me would sell out in a minute and I know these guys
would, too...mainly because we've worked so hard and
for so long. It feels like a payoff is long overdue. ON the other hand, I
would like to stay independent and have a strong diehard
fanbase, even though it might be smaller. People who appreciate us for our
art.
Thank you for taking part in this Zineterview
Thank you for taking the time to interview us.
Any parting words?
Dig it, man...like this is the one.
